Brandon started working in his family’s contracting business when he was in high school. He worked there until 2013 when he joined Carnwath Excavating Company. Since 2013, Brandon has been an operator and then a foreman. Brandon has a wide range of knowledge because of his experience in his family’s business. He fits into our company goals and mission perfectly. We value his workmanship and character.
Ed has 24 years of experience in both earthwork and utilities. He started with Carnwath Excavating Company as a laborer in 1998 and has been with the company ever since. In his 21 years with the company he has been a laborer, pipe layer, operator and foreman. He is an expert in his field of work. Ed is a valued, loyal employee that exemplifies our company goal and mission.
Gregg has worked in the sewer and water business since 1986. In 1989, he started at Carnwath Excavating Company as a laborer, then pipe layer, operator and foreman. Gregg has over 33 years of experience, specializing in site utilities and is an expert in his field of work. Gregg is currently a foreman for the utility operations of the company. Gregg is a valued employee that exemplifies Carnwath Excavating Company’s mission.
Jonathan has been working in civil construction since 2002 and joined Carnwath Excavating in 2019. He started his construction career working on a survey crew in his hometown of Sault Ste Marie in Upper Peninsula, Michigan. Now a Michigan Tech Grad and Professional Engineer, he has spent the majority of his career with a focus on estimating and project management of civil construction projects. Having experience in engineering, bidding, and the construction process has given him a versatile knowledge of our work and the ability to provide our clients with the most accurate and competitive quotes taking value engineering and constructability into consideration.

Ken worked in his family's General Contracting business from High School until 1988, working in all phases of Commercial/Residential building construction. Wanting to perform quality and reliability in one particular Category of the industry, Ken and his wife Barb started Carnwath Excavating Company in January of 1989. Specializing in Site Utility construction at first, and subsequently adding Earth Moving operations to the business. Ken has been involved in the labor and/or management of the company ever since.
Mark has worked in the construction industry for 25 years, starting at his family’s heavy equipment dealership in his youth, stocking parts and assisting in the shop. Recognizing his passion for heavy equipment and earthwork, he worked summers as a laborer for a residential excavation company prior to graduating high school. In the past 20 years Mark has performed many roles within the excavation field including operator, foreman, estimator, project manager for several Michigan-based excavation and paving companies. He credits several outstanding mentors past and present for his continued growth, knowledge and success in this industry. Mark joined Carnwath Excavating Company in 2014 as a project manager/superintendent, and in 2017 became a partner as well as President. Mark is proud to be a leader of a company with a rich history of providing superior quality and service in their industry.
Paul has worked in the sitework industry in Michigan since 1989 with several different companies, including being self-employed for 15 years. Paul joined Carnwath Excavating Company in 2013 as an Earthwork Foreman and has been a foreman for earthwork and utility operations since then. Because of Paul’s integrity and experience as an employee and business owner, his abilities are extremely valued in our company.
Rod has 43 years of experience in the Site Work/Site Utility industry. Rod began his career as a heavy equipment mechanic and lowboy driver and worked his way through all facets of the industry from scheduling and delivery of equipment, to Operations Manager, responsible for the oversite of the entire company. Rod has his degree in Heavy Equipment Technology with additional training in Blueprint Reading, Agtek and Trakware earthwork programs. Rod joined Carnwath Excavating Company in 2011 in his current role as Estimator/Project Manager. Because of Rod’s experience and knowledge both in the field and office, he offers expertise and value engineering to our customers, and is dedicated to upholding the reputation we have for quality and customer service.
